Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio came under another round of withering attacks Tuesday during a packed community forum in Phoenix where critics accused him of wasting taxpayer dollars on racially motivated immigration sweeps at the expense of investigating serious crimes.

A coalition of community groups, labor unions, and anti-Arpaio activists called Maricopa Citizens for Safety and Accountability presented data claiming that 911 response times in some areas of the county have increased 300 percent, outstanding felony warrants have soared to 40,000, and sex crimes are going uninvestigated because of Arpaio's emphasis on arresting illegal immigrants.
